ABOUT ACEQUIAThe selection of our company name has tremendous meaning and history which we feel reflects who we are and how we want to be viewed by our partners.

"Acequia" is a term brought to this country via old Spain where it roots back to the formalization of irrigation practices prior to the conquest of the Americas. During this period, Acequia referred to water stewards or overseers assigned to assure that colonies were established in accordance with sound environmental principals. Acequia also refers to the man-made transference of water.

Acequia became a system of communal water management in Spain and in the original colonies in America. In San Antonio, Texas, remnants of this inherited management system are evidenced at many of the old mission sites. Acequia also became a reference for the groups with the belief in water as a life-blood of existence. This belief played important role in bringing many partnerships together throughout history, including the community of farmers who shared the water and labor of maintaining the acequias through cooperation and mutual respect.

The partners within Acequia hold a common belief that continued survival of our culture is inextricably linked to our relationship with the land and water. Our mission is to continue the history of Acequia by building partnerships with our clients, water purveyors, and horticultural community to conserve water.
